This has been kind-of a strange month. I would give it a kind 'five' and that is being generous.

The first two weeks were so-so. My cleaning lady has faithfully shown up every. single. day. >.< Which is actually great, y'know because I have had stuff sitting around for way too long and I need someone to work with me on it. Otherwise I am just overwhelmed by memories and everything (since a lot of it is family stuff) and it really is the only way for me to make progress. The bad side is: I have not been able to get to the Y at. all., and I am losing way to much time there -- to say nothing of how much exhausted I feel because I am sitting in this same old mess nearly 24/7, which is not good. I am paying for a membership that isn't being used like it should because the classes I take are in the mornings... *sigh* But at the same time, this other needs to be done as well... ::spazzes::

It rained again in the night. And so I got a late start to the day. I was tempted to sleep in but I wanted to get some fresh veggies etc. and since my cough was better, I just wanted to get out and faff around a bit.

Twins Born At HCMC In Different Years « CBS Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A mother welcomed two bundles of joy overnight in Minneapolis — one in 2011 and the other in 2012.

Stephanie Peterson had a February due date, but went into labor late Friday night. The nurses said they joked it would be funny if one baby was born new year’s eve, the other on new year’s day. They didn’t actually believe that would be the case, of course.

Officials at Hennepin County Medical Center said the proud mom gave birth to son Beckett at 6:40 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Then, six hours later, she delivered his twin sister Freya, at 12:26 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

A pet cat has been summoned for jury duty - and has been told by courts he 'must attend'.

Despite owner Anna Esposito's protestations that a mistake has been made, a jury commissioner has ruled that Sal must attend the court.

I have been wondering why my little dog has been off her feed. Today I learned why. It seems that my cat has been pawing her food out of her dish (which is on my computer desk, so the dog *couldn't* steal it in the first place) and knocking it to the floor when the dog barks. >>.<< I just... no words. Really.

Finally my neighbor showed up and was able to unlock the door(s), so now I am *free*! Yes!

LeeAnn went crazy going outside and rolling in the grass. Thank goodness for flea treatments because I am sure that she picked up a few hundred or so with all her rolling sand 'shoulder-sliding'.

Since I wasn't able to get any laundry done (but tomorrow? Oh yeah, tomorrow! laundry will be done) I went through other stuff and boxed it up. Unfortunately my boxes got in the way of the kittehs napping spots, so they invaded LeeAnn's spots instead. Oh the rudeness! the callousness! the utter disregard for *designated napping spots*. Yikes! But all is rearranged now, and all is right with the world again.

As for the cats on the porch -- yes they are happy that the usual noms have been restored. (They are all so spoiled, and Baby kept rattling the door knob and wanting inside for her special noms.)

Today started out as any other, and it went straight downhill from there. When I went to open the kitchen door (that leads to the porch, and the outer door) so I could let the little dog out for her morning run inside the fence, the door knob fell off in my hand. And I tried to ease the knob back on so I could open it, but no luck. The little bar had slid *just* far enough ahead so that I can't grasp it with anything, not even needle-nose pliers or a bent paperclip to try and hook it in the little fastener hole... *SIGHS*

Now I am waiting for one of the neighbors to get back from work, so they can remove the kitchen screen and I can hand them the key so they can open the porch door and from there, help me fix the kitchen door so I can get out. Usually this would not be so much of a problem but nearly everyone is at work or on vacation -- which means they are out and around, just not answering their phones. ::head desk:: To make things even better, my little dog is absolutely bonkers to get outside, and she cannot understand why I am not letting her out. :/

Titanic Cruise a Tough Sell

Somehow, I think I'll pass on this one.

You have to be a certain type of cruise passenger to want to duplicate the route of the Titanic, apparently. A Titanic Memorial Cruise, scheduled on the 100th anniversary of the Titanic tragedy, has been on sale for a year now. But there's still space available.

The cruise, organized by a British travel agency, is on the 1,350-passenger ship Balmoral, operated by Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines. And according to Jen Schak of Minneapolis-based Borton Overseas, the U.S. booking agent, it's only 70% sold out.
Schak said history buffs and others can still book a decent cabin with views from $5,185.

With maritime historians onboard as lecturers, the 22-year-old Balmoral will embark on the cruise from Southampton, UK, on April 8, 2012. After passing by Cherbourg on the French coast, and calling at the Irish port of Cobh, the ship will set sail across the Atlantic.

On August 14, the Balmoral will be positioned at the actual site where the Titanic hit an iceberg a century before, near midnight, and sunk a few hours later. A memorial service will be held on the Balmoral at 2:30 a.m., on August 15, commemorating the 1,500 or so passengers and crew who lost their lives in the infamous tragedy. The modern-day cruise will then continue to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where many onboard the Titanic are buried, and then on to New York, the Titanic's original destination.

The Balmoral is itself no stranger to bad luck. Headlines in the past few years have included the ship being hit repeatedly by a stomach bug, getting battered by 50-foot waves in the Bay of Biscay (off Spain) and just escaping attack by pirates in the Gulf of Aden.

You've probably heard the Toyota Prius referred to as the "Pious." The joke is that Prius owners feel driving a hybrid means they are holier than thou. But it's just a joke made by people who wish they could get 50 miles per gallon around town, right? If you ask Canadian psychologists Nina Mazar and Chen-Bo Zhong, they'll say that environmentally conscious types are liars, cheats, thieves and just plain mean, and they're not even talking about hybrid-driving politicians.

When waiting for an appointment in a large empty waiting room, it is much more acceptable to simply listen to one's iPod rather than playing sing-along with the songs. Especially when said song is not in one's first language, nor even a second language in which one may (or may not) be fluent. Though one supposes that it could have been worse if one had decided to practice reciting The Oath of Fëanor in Quenya. [Better yet, next time one should just re-read the book.] ::slinks away::

Ok, so my hockey and sports sibs already know this. (It's the infamous Jason Giambi "good luck charm". ) For those of you who know what this means, feel free to skip. But for my *other* sibs who have not yet had to chlorox their brain cells, it's under the cut.
